Law, justice, governance and the Millennial Reign: Useful and useless law.

In the movie “First Knight “,” King Arthur says to his rival, “There are laws that oppress men and there are laws that set men free.” It’s a good line and its truth is obvious from even casual observance. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 13:3-4,”For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.”

While many may point to the obedience that this chapter calls for, I would emphasize that their authority only extends to doing good for those who do no harm and to punish the ones that do. Anything else is meant to be beyond human authority or an abuse of that authority.

While you get a lot of talk about high crime in this country, what I can say after being in what are reported as high crime areas even at sketchy times of the day, I’ve seen and experienced very little. Don’t get me wrong. One bad moment can change everything. But what I will say is that after dealing with people from all over the world, in various states of minds and moods, very little has happened to me in a way that I would call criminal. I was assaulted once in an alley by two young men one. The man who threw the punch apparently broke his hand. We were in sight of a police station.

The point is, that the police can’t protect you, even if they wanted to. The most dangerous part of every traffic stop I have ever seen has been the stop itself. It endangers the officer, it endangers the driver stopped and endangers everyone on the road at that time. The lights are blinding and incredibly distracting. And for what? So they can make $140 for someone going 6 miles over a speed limit that everyone ignores. It’s a business, not justice.

Earlier this week, in order to give ear to the Michigan State Police, I decided to visit their website to see what they were up to. Out of about ten headlines that I read, only one dealt with crime. The good news was that they were going to put a new emphasis on human trafficking. So we can all sleep better knowing that. Why wouldn’t that be a priority for a statewide criminal investigation unit that is a port of entry from another country?

When the shot was rolled out and the death toll was admittedly climbing, the state police did nothing and still has done nothing to stop this from happening. They could have rolled into the Pfizer plant in Kalamazoo and gained all the correspondence and any evidence that they needed without permission from the federal government, but chose to do nothing. I know of at least four people that I believe were killed by the regimen forced upon us. I can only assume others have a similar story. Tens of thousands of deaths reported to VAERS, the very tip of the iceberg, and nothing. Even in the current administration. Nothing.
